By the end of this course, learners will have a comprehensive
understanding of disability, including its prevalence and the unique
challenges faced by persons with disabilities and their families.
Participants will learn to identify various disabilities and their
characteristics, recognize the importance of treating individuals with
respect and dignity, and understand the safe use of transport devices
and mobility aids. Additionally, the course will cover essential
workplace safety guidelines and self-care techniques to support
emotional well-being, equipping learners with the skills needed to
foster a respectful, supportive, and safe environment for all.

Course Objective

Support Service to Persons with Disabilities’ course is specially designed for professionals who interact with persons with disabilities in their work or daily activities. It is crucial for participants to understand and address the unique needs and concerns of individuals with physical, emotional, learning, and intellectual disabilities. The course is recommended for service professionals from various sectors, including support care staff, social service workers, and volunteers who engage with persons with disabilities at home, in the community, or in the workplace. This training is especially relevant for those who may encounter persons with disabilities in their roles and must ensure their safety during interactions and while accompanying them in their duties.

  • Identify various types of disabilities and their characteristics.
  • Understand the needs, challenges, and concerns of persons with disabilities and their families.
  • Recognize the importance of treating persons with disabilities with respect and dignity.
  • Describe different types of transport devices and mobility aids.
  • Operate transport devices and walking aids safely.
  • Adhere to organizational guidelines for Workplace Safety and Health (WSH).
  • Apply self-care techniques to maintain emotional health.

Minimum Entry Requirement

There are no strict prerequisites for this course. However, it is recommended for individuals with: 

  • A basic understanding of caregiving or support work in community or healthcare settings. 
  • Experience in roles related to eldercare, disability services, or personal care assistance. 
  • An interest in providing respectful and safe support to persons with disabilities in home, community, or institutional environments.
