Course Overview

The Essential Care-giving Skills for Elderly course equips learners with the fundamental knowledge and practical skills necessary to assist the elderly in their daily activities. With the increasing demand for elderly care professionals, this course focuses on enhancing caregiving competencies, including personal care assistance, communication techniques, safety protocols, and emergency response skills.

Participants will learn to provide respectful and effective care that upholds the dignity and well-being of elderly clients, making them valuable assets in healthcare, home care, and community support services.


Course Objective

By the end of the course, participants will:

  • Develop the skills to assist elderly individuals with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) safely and effectively.
  • Understand how to maintain privacy and dignity while providing care.
  • Learn to identify abnormalities in client conditions and report them appropriately.
  • Gain knowledge of workplace procedures, safety protocols, and organizational SOPs.
  • Develop emergency response skills, including first aid and the use of Automated External Defibrillators (AEDs).

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Identify the preparation required before assisting clients with ADLs.
  2. Prepare and maintain tools and equipment used in caregiving.
  3. Dispose of waste materials following safety and hygiene protocols.
  4. Demonstrate respect for privacy and dignity in caregiving interactions.
  5. Explain care procedures effectively using appropriate communication skills.
  6. Identify abnormalities and risks in elderly clients and report them to supervisors.
  7. Assist clients with ADLs following established organizational procedures.
  8. Recall and apply standard operating procedures (SOPs) for recording and reporting caregiving activities.
  9. Follow emergency response protocols, including compliance with regulatory guidelines.
  10. Understand and explain the basics of first aid and the use of AEDs.
